PV Systems Operation Modes and the Approach of Islanding the Local grid during Blackout

Solar PV technology is the most widely popular power generation technology among the others. The common mode of the solar PV installations is the on-grid connection. The main challenge of the on-grid connection is that PV systems will stop power generation during the area grid outages as the grid connection is required for the frequency and voltage synchronization and the safety concern. This is considered as a drawback of the PV system especially for small critical load applications where the blackout occurs during the avaliability of the solar irradiation or during the long blackout durations or in the high penetration of the renewable energy.
